GSA Awards New Schedule Contract to Canon USA

WASHINGTON —The U.S. General Services Administration’s (GSA) Federal Acquisition Service (FAS) announced today that it awarded Canon USA a Multiple Award Schedule (MAS) contract under the consolidated schedule.  The new contract provides the U.S. government with substantially discounted prices for copiers, copier leasing, maintenance and IT equipment.  
 
Tyree Varnado, Acting Commissioner for GSA’s Federal Acquisition Service, said, “Awarding this new contract is good for federal agencies, Canon and the American taxpayer.  Canon’s return to the MAS Program demonstrates its key role in delivering service, innovation and value to our government customers.” 
 
The new contract represents an estimated cost avoidance of nearly $95 million over Canon USA’s previous MAS contract and has an estimated contract value of $110 million over five years.
 
GSA and Canon worked diligently together to rebuild their relationship after Canon left the MAS Program in October 2007.  “Robust competition and trusted commercial partnerships are critical to the continued success of the program,” said Varnado.  “The savings can be directly attributed to aggressive contract negotiations focused on areas recommended by GSA’s Inspector General in a 2007 audit.”
 
GSA designed the consolidated schedule as a means for industry to offer a more diverse service and product base under a single schedules contract, rather than managing numerous separate schedule contracts.  GSA schedules offer customers direct delivery of millions of state-of-the-art, high quality commercial supplies and services at volume discount pricing.
