American
Community Survey (ACS)
The American Community Survey is a new nationwide survey designed
to provide communities a fresh look at how they are changing.
It will replace the long form in future censuses and is a critical
element in the Census Bureau's reengineered 2010 census plan.

Special
Census
A special census is a basic enumeration of population, housing
units, and group quarters conducted by the Census Bureau at the
request of a governmental unit. When local officials believe there
has been a significant population change in their community or
due to annexation, a special census may be in order. A certified
official population increase resulting from the special census
may produce an increase in state revenue sharing or other benefits.
Surveys
A survey is a method of collecting and analyzing social, economic,
and geographic data. It provides information about the conditions
of the United States, states, and counties. Throughout the decade
between censuses we are continually conducting surveys to produce
a general view and comprehensive study of the United States' social
and economic conditions.
