Program Description
The Northeast Texas Medical Reserve Corps was formed as a result of the public health response to the 2005 hurricanes. The Corps serves in a six-county area with a population of approximately 450,000. Although the jurisdiction is predominantly rural, the Corps headquarters is located in Tyler, a medium-sized city with three large hospitals and associated medical infrastructure. It was developed to serve as a community public health emergency response team to supplement public health infrastructure and local emergency management, and provide medical surge capacity. The Corps is made up of medical professionals, law enforcement personnel, local government officials, and public health practitioners.
