FIREARMS CHARGE LEADS TO 10-YEAR SENTENCE TOPEKA, Kan. - A Topeka man will spend 10 years in federal prison for possessing stolen firearms. “Mr. Wade was prohibited from possessing a firearm – stolen or otherwise – due to the fact he had been convicted of felony aggravated assault in Shawnee County, Kan., in 1996, as well as two counts of domestic battery in Shawnee County, Kan., in 2002,” said U.S. Attorney Eric Melgren. In his plea, Wade admitted that two .22 caliber rifles, both stolen, were found when agents of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Topeka Police Department served a search warrant April 13, 2005, at his home in Topeka. Melgren commended the work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the Topeka Police Department, as well as Assistant U.S. Attorney Randy Hendershot, who is prosecuting.
