Arrest of Person with Molotov Cocktail Device

John A. Torres, Special Agent in Charge, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), San Francisco Field Division, and Alex Fagan, Acting Chief of Police, San Francisco Police Department, announced the arrest of Jacob Lehman, 25, a resident of San Francisco, in connection with the discovery of the Molotov cocktail device discovered March 21, 2003. This was the device discovered on Market Street, between 3rd and 4th Streets.

San Francisco Police and ATF Special Agents obtained search warrants and an arrest warrant based on leads that were developed during investigation of this case. The warrants were executed on March 28 and 29, 2003, on residential locations in San Francisco and Arcata, CA. Lehman was arrested without incident in San Francisco on March 28 by San Francisco Police Officers.

Lehman was originally arraigned on State charges on March 29, 2003. State charges were withdrawn against Lehman today, and he will be taken into Federal custody by ATF pending Federal charges.

At this time the investigation is ongoing and we are unable to release further details.

We would like to thank the media for their assistance is distributing the security video with the two individuals who appeared to be placing the molotov cocktail. We are still trying to identify the female in the video and would appreciate any further assistance from the media in getting those images out to the public. Tips can be reported to either 1-888-ATF-FIRE or 415-553-9755, the San Francisco Police Tip Line.
