Holyoke Resident Indicted For Possessing Drugs And Firearm

Springfield, MA... A federal grand jury indicted a Holyoke man yesterday on drug and firearm charges.

United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan; William Bennett, Hampden County District Attorney; J. Dewey Webb, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms; and Anthony Scott, Chief of the Holyoke Police Department, announced that a federal grand jury indicted EVERETT THOMPSON, age 22, formerly residing at 68 Newton Street, Holyoke, Massachusetts, on charges of possession with intent to distribute and distribution of cocaine base, possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, being a felon in possession of a firearm, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

The indictment alleges that THOMPSON unlawfully distributed and possessed with the intent to distribute crack cocaine on two separate occasions between June 21, 2002 and June 26, 2002. On the last occasion, the indictment alleges that THOMPSON possessed with intent to distribute more than 5 grams of crack cocaine. In addition, the indictment also alleges that THOMPSON illegally possessed a fully loaded .380 caliber Llama handgun with an obliterated serial number and a fully loaded .32 caliber Llama handgun on June 26, 2002.

If convicted, THOMPSON faces a maximum sentence of 40 years' imprisonment on the drug charges, a mandatory consecutive term of imprisonment of 5 years for possessing a firearm during a drug trafficking crime, and 10 years' imprisonment for the remaining firearm charges.

This case is the result of a joint investigation by the Holyoke Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms as part of "Project Remove," a cooperative effort by the U.S. Attorney's Office and Hampden County District Attorney's Office to prosecute firearm violations in Hampden County. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney William M. Welch, II in Sullivan's Springfield Office and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney James Goodhines from the Hampden County District Attorney's Office.
