Dorchester Man Charged With Federal Gun Crime

Boston, MA... A Dorchester man was indicted yesterday by a federal grand jury on firearm and ammunition offenses.

United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan and J. Dewey Webb, Special Agent in Charge of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms in New England, announced that BONAE SWAIN-PRICE, age 24, of Dorchester, Massachusetts, was charged in a one-count indictment with being a previously convicted felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition. SWAIN-PRICE was arrested by Boston Police in connection with this case in November of last year and charged in a federal criminal complaint on January 30, 2003.

According to the indictment and other documents filed with the Court, it is alleged that on November 5, 2002, SWAIN-PRICE, a previously convicted felon, had in his possession a .25 caliber Raven Arms pistol, and multiple rounds of ammunition.

It is alleged that a red Nissan pickup truck owned by SWAIN-PRICE was under Boston Police observation in connection with certain information the police had linking the vehicle to a robbery. The police observed the pickup truck parked near Mount Ida Road and Potosi Street in Dorchester. When the police checked the license plate, information indicated that the truck was stolen. The police subsequently searched the vehicle and allegedly found a handgun wedged between the driver's seat and the driver's side door. They also allegedly found various drug paraphernalia and what appeared to be crack cocaine. SWAIN-PRICE was immediately arrested.

Federal law prohibits any individuals previously convicted of a federal or state felony from possessing a firearm or ammunition.

If convicted, SWAIN-PRICE faces a maximum sentence of 6 years and 6 months in prison, and a fine of $250,000. SWAIN-PRICE has been in custody since the time of his arrest.

The investigation was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, working in conjunction with the Boston Police Department. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Thomas Kanwit in Sullivan's Major Crimes Unit.
