NEW HRSA ADMINISTRATOR SITS DOWN WITH ACPM REPRESENTATIVES
Mary
Wakefield, PhD, RN, the new Administrator of the Health Resources and Services
Administration (HRSA), recently met with ACPM representatives to discuss her
vision for the agency and the important role preventive medicine physicians play
in supporting that vision.
During the meeting Dr. Wakefield opened the door to new areas of collaboration
with ACPM.

TASK FORCE REAFFIRMS TOBACCO USE SCREENING AND COUNSELING RECOMMENDATION
The
U.S. Preventive Services Task Force has reaffirmed its 2003 recommendation
that clinicians ask all
adults about tobacco use and provide tobacco cessation interventions for those
who use tobacco products (A recommendation). The Task Force also recommends
that clinicians ask all pregnant women about tobacco use and provide augmented,
pregnancy-tailored counseling for those who smoke (A recommendation).
