Russian Delegation Studies Education Policy in the U.S.

A delegation from the USAID-funded Russian Education Alliance traveled to the U.S. from February 23 - March 2, 2009 to learn about U.S. education policy and the role of civil society in improving the quality of public education. The study tour began in Michigan, where participants met with school administrators and civil society leaders to learn about local school reform and public involvement in the development of local education policies. The delegation then traveled to Washington, D.C. to meet with representatives from the Department of Education and national NGOs active in education reform. These meetings offered new insights into the creation of national alliances and the interaction between the NGO sector and the government at the national level.

The Russian Education Alliance was formed under USAID’s Civil Society Support Program Dialogue, implemented by IREX.
