Olympic Coast National Marine Sanctuary borders 135 miles of the rugged coastline of
Washington's
Olympic Peninsula. In general, it is located about 150 miles west of Puget Sound cities of
Seattle and Tacoma. Driving may involve ferry crossings of Puget Sound. Highway access is
generally two-lane highway and is subject to heavy seasonal traffic. Weather conditions,
distances and isolations are all major factors of highway safety.
Because it is a frequent arrival point for visitors and it is centrally located between Seattle
and Tacoma, Sea Tac Airport is used as a regional starting point.
Please note that our staff office and Discovery Center are located in Port Angeles, which is not within the
sanctuary itself.
Directions are given both for reaching Port Angeles, and for visiting sanctuary
destinations
along the coast.
