Legislation

In the report language accompanying the 2008 Department of Education Appropriations Act, Congress indicated that funding recommended for school emergency preparedness activities be used for new grant awards to higher education institutions to develop and implement emergency management plans for preventing campus violence (including assessing and addressing the mental health needs of students) and for responding to threats and incidents of violence or natural disaster in a manner that ensures the safety of the campus community. Regulations

This competition is authorized under U.S.C. 7131. The applicable regulations for this competition are found in 34 CFR parts 74, 75, 77, 79, 81, 82, 84, 85, 86, 97, 98, 99, and 299.

Note: The regulations in CRF part 79 apply to all applicants except federally recognized Indian tribes.
