About the Library

Libraries in the USGS Biological Resources Division (http://biology.usgs.gov/libraries.html) are located in nine research centers. The NWRC library holdings consist of approximately 11,000 books, documents, videos, sound records, maps, computer files/data bases, microfiche, directories, and technical reports; approximately 125 periodical subscriptions; and vertical files of pamphlets and resource materials for educators. The collection is comprehensive in U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Biological Service, and USGS Biological Resources Division technical reports. Other state and federal reports considered as grey literature are included in the collection, and the entire collection is cataloged in the center's online library catalog and WorldCat, the Online Computer Library Center, Inc. (OCLC) Online Union Catalog.

There is an additional collection of reprints referenced in a local online data base available in the library and Center network. The collections support research in wetland ecology, wetland loss, wetland plants, animal ecology and habitat protection, forested wetlands, statistical analysis of data, remote sensing, and geospatial analysis of wetland areas.

Policies

The library circulates materials to Center staff and other libraries through interlibray loan using the OCLC Interlibrary Loan System. Single issues of journals may be checked out for 7 days to NWRC staff only. Anyone may use the resources available in the library and make a limited number of photocopies for personal use. Reference assistance is available; please call to make sure a librarian will be available during your visit to the Center.
