APIRS (Aquatic Plant Information Retrieval System) is a free online resource devoted to freshwater aquatic and wetland plants, as well as terrestrial and aquatic invasive plants. The database includes annotated citations for more than 65,000 research articles, books and reports about plant ecology, physiology, utilization and control. It includes items in many languages dating back to the 18th century.

FIPS55 is the Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS), which contains codes for named populated places, primary county divisions, and other locational entities of the United States and areas under the jurisdiction of the United States. FIPS55 data maintenance is the responsibility of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS). Under the authority of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the USGS is disseminating the data, and is the only Federal agency authorized by NIST to do so.

Fire Ecology Database

The E.V. Komarek Fire Ecology Database is comprised of bibliographic citations to a broad collection of fire ecology literature. All papers from the Proceedings of the Tall Timbers Fire Ecology Conferences, 1-21, are in the database and include an abstract for each entry. The NWRC library has many of the conference proceedings and papers listed in the database.

Fire Effects Information System (FEIS)

FEIS summarizes and synthesizes research about the biology and ecology of living organisms in the United States and their relationship to fire. The database contains literature reviews of almost 900 plant species, about 100 animal species, and 16 Kuchler plant communities found on the North American continent. The emphasis of each review is fire and how it affects each species. Background information on taxonomy, distribution, basic biology, and ecology of each species is also included. Reviews are thoroughly documented, and each contains a complete bibliography.

The GRIN database is a source of information on 461,000 germplasm accessions of the USDA, ARS. The taxonomic portion of GRIN provides the classification and nomenclature for these genetic resources and many other economic plants on a worldwide basis. Included are scientific names for 18,800 genera (14,000 accepted) and 79,600 species or infraspecies (48,800 accepted) with common names, geographical distributions, literature references, and economic impacts.

NatureBib merges a number of previously separate databases dealing with natural resource related topics like air, deer, geology and paleontology. STORET, EPA's largest computerized environmental data system

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) maintains two data management systems containing water quality information for the nation's waters: the Legacy Data Center (LDC), and STORET. The LDC is a static, archived database and STORET is an operational system being actively populated with water quality data. The LDC contains historical water quality data dating back to the early part of the 20th century and collected up to the end of 1998. STORET contains data collected beginning in 1999, along with older data that has been properly documented and migrated from the LDC. Both systems contain raw biological, chemical, and physical data on surface and ground water collected by federal, state and local agencies, Indian Tribes, volunteer groups, academics, and others. All 50 States, territories, and jurisdictions of the U.S. are represented in these systems.
