National Service Board Chair Welcomes Henry Lozano as Director of USA Freedom Corps

Washington D.C. - Stephen Goldsmith, Chairman of the Board of the Corporation for National and Community Service, hailed the President’s selection of Henry Lozano to serve as Director of USA Freedom Corps.  Lozano, a California civic activist who has spent three decades working for safer and healthier communities, has served on the bipartisan national service board since December of 2003.   Goldsmith made the following statement about the President’s appointment:

“Henry Lozano has devoted his life to grassroots action and citizen problem-solving.  His vast experience and boundless energy will help USA Freedom Corps achieve greater levels of success in building a culture of service, responsibility, and citizenship in America.  USA Freedom Corps has been at the forefront of expanding volunteer service in America and has achieved many successes in advancing the President’s service and compassion agenda over the past five and a half years.  It is fitting that on the day we remember the tragedy of 9/11, we also recall the extraordinary outpouring of compassion that followed in its wake, and welcome a leader to the White House who will work tirelessly to strengthen and expand America’s proud tradition of citizen service.”

The Corporation for National and Community Service improves lives, strengthens communities, and fosters civic engagement through service and volunteering. Each year, the Corporation provides opportunities for more than 2 million Americans of all ages and backgrounds to serve their communities and country through Senior Corps, AmeriCorps and Learn and Serve America.
