Washington, D.C. - I am greatly saddened to confirm the death of a valued member of the USAID Mission in Baghdad. A loyal and respected foreign national employee, he was shot and killed earlier this week by an unknown assailant.

Our heartfelt condolences are extended to his family and the American people stand indebted for his service.

Each day Americans and foreign nationals alike help to implement United States humanitarian and development programs in some of the most dangerous locations throughout the developing world. We are humbled by their commitment, honor their sacrifice and remain dedicated to our mission.

The U.S. Agency for International Development has provided economic and humanitarian assistance worldwide for more than 40 years.
