MySTATE
Welcome to MyState! The resources in this database provide Guard, Reserve, and Active Duty service members and families who are geographically separated from a military installation with connections to local community organizations that support the military and to military sponsored services within the state. MyState supports an integrated network of support services and resources.

Some support services and resources may have eligibility criteria that determine which benefits can be fully accessed. For some military programs, branch/component and/or activation status may be part of the eligibility criteria. For example, if a Guard or Reserve service member is on active duty orders, they and their dependent family members are eligible to use programs and services on military installations regardless of branch affiliation. If the service member is not activated, then they and their family can use support services offered through their component and through local community resources. For civilian programs, eligibility criteria may include factors such as family income and county of residence.

**All National Guard, Reserve, and Active Duty service members, regardless of activation status, and their families can contact the State Family Program Director / Joint Forces Headquarters and the Joint Family Support Assistance Program for information on military and civilian resources within the state. Service members and families can also contact Military OneSource (1-800-342-9647) for local and national resources.

    Casualty Resources provide emotional and/or tangible support to Family Members (FM) that have experienced the death of a Service Member (SM) or to SM or FM who have lost other loved ones. These resources may include benefits assistance, grief counseling, and grief support groups for adults and children. The primary Point of Contact for Casualty Resources within the state is the Soldier and Personnel Readiness office at the Joint Forces Headquarters.

    Program Description
    The new 479-acre national cemetery in the Birmingham area will serve veterans' needs for at least the next 50 years. The cemetery is located at 3133 Highway 119, 15 miles south of Birmingham, just north of the town of Montevallo and west of Interstate Highway 65.

    Program Description
    Your American Red Cross is in your community, at military installations and deployment sites around the world to support service members and their families. Contact your chapter when you have an emergency, need assistance or want to assist others. The American Red Cross provides assistance 24 hours a day, every day of the year. When you have an emergency, call your Red Cross to provide a verified message to the military member and command; and to access to emergency financial assistance. The American Red Cross Casualty Travel Assistance Program can provide support to 2 significant family members (who are not supported by military orders) to go to the bedside of the injured (up to 7 days) or attend a service for the fallen (up to 2 days).

    Program Description
    Fort Mitchell a nationally designated cemetery provides burial space for veterans and their eligible family members residing in Alabama. Fort Mitchell maintains a national cemetery as a national shrine, sacred to the honor and memory of those memorialized. Fort Mitchell marks veterans’ graves with a Government-furnished headstone or marker and provides Presidential Memorial Certificates in recognition of their national service.

  • Emergency Relief Services provide food, shelter, transportation, and/or financial assistance in emergency or disaster situations. Emergency Relief may also include personal emergency management resources such as the Red Cross military Emergency Communications Services.   • Employment Resources provide assistance with job training, job placement, small business ownership, and accessing unemployment benefits.   • Faith Community Resources provide emotional and/or tangible support services, including but not limited to support groups, religious counseling, outreach, and financial assistance geared specifically to Service Members and their families.   • Family Member Special Needs Resources provide emotional and/or tangible support, and advocacy services to individuals and families with an adult or child who has a special need. Special needs may be related to physical or psychological health or educational needs. Information on the military's Exceptional Family Member Program, as well as military and civilian resources, can be found on MilitaryHOMERONT. The primary Point of Contact for Family Member Special Needs Resources within the state is the Exceptional Family Member Program at the Joint Forces Headquarters.

  • Family and Individual Assistance Programs (Civilian) Resources consist of community non-profit organizations providing assistance with food, housing, clothing, job training, as well as military specific issues such as coping with deployment. Resources may also consist of Information and Referral programs linking individuals and families to these services, as well as preventative programs that provide education and training which help users avoid difficulties meeting basic needs. The primary Point of Contact for Family and Individual Assistance Programs is Military OneSource. MOS will conduct specialized research to identify local resources best able to meet your specific needs.

  • Heroes to Hometowns (H2H) is designed to welcome home Service members who, because of injuries sustained, can no longer serve in the military. H2H establishes a support network and coordinates resources for severely injured Service members returning home. Heroes to Hometowns is a program that focuses on reintegration back home, with networks established at the national, state, and local levels to better identify the extraordinary needs of returning families before they return home and to work with local communities to coordinate government and non-government resources necessary for long term success.

  • Money Matters Resources provide counseling and education on financial issues such as, but not limited to, money management, debt reduction, saving and investing, and planning for retirement.   • Psychological Health Care Resources provide counseling services or referrals related to psychological health issues, psychological evaluations, marital or family relationships, substance abuse, and work-life issues such as stress management. Resources may include support groups and psycho-educational classes. The primary Point of Contact for Psychological Health Care Resources within the state is the Director of Psychological Health and the Surgeons office at the Joint Forces Headquarters.
