  • American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA)
    The Office of American Schools and Hospitals Abroad (ASHA) provides grants to competitively selected private, non-profit universities and secondary schools, libraries, and medical centers abroad.

  • Advisory Committee on Voluntary Foreign Aid (ACVFA)
    ACVFA was established by presidential directive after World War II to serve as a link between the U.S. Government and private voluntary organizations (PVOs) active in humanitarian assistance and development work overseas. Comprised of 30 private citizens with extensive knowledge of international development, ACVFA helps provide the underpinning for cooperation between the public and private sectors in U.S. foreign assistance programs.

  • Food for Peace
    USAID, through funding provided by Public Law 480, Title II, makes commodity donations to Cooperating Sponsors (Private Voluntary Organizations, Cooperatives, and International Organization Agencies) to address the needs of food security in both 5-year development projects and emergency food assistance programs.

  • The Global Development Alliance (GDA)
    The GDA is USAID's commitment to change the way we implement our assistance mandate. GDA mobilizes the ideas, efforts and resources of governments, businesses and civil society by forging public-private alliances to stimulate economic growth, develop businesses and workforces, address health and environmental issues, and expand access to education and technology.

  • Global Health
    USAID's Global Health Bureau supports field health programs, advances research and innovation in selected areas relevant to overall Agency health objectives, and transfers new technologies to the field through its own staff work, coordination with other donors, and a portfolio of grants and with an annual budget in fiscal year 2007 of nearly $4.15 billion.

  • International Food Relief Partnership
    USAID's Office of Food for Peace (FFP) works with partner organizations to reduce food insecurity in development and emergency situations around the globe.

  • Malaria Communities Program
    The Malaria Communities Program (MCP) is a $30 million initiative created under PMI to support the efforts of communities and indigenous organizations to combat malaria at the local level.

  • New Partners Initiative (NPI)
    The New Partners Initiative (NPI) is part of a broader effort within the President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (Emergency Plan/PEPFAR) to work with new partners, including community and faith-based organizations, enhancing their technical and organizational capacity and ensuring the quality and sustainability of HIV/AIDS programs by building community ownership.

  • Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business
    The Office of Small and Disadvantaged Business Utilization and Minority Resource Center (OSDBU/MRC) is the initial point of contact at USAID for U.S. small, small disadvantaged, women-owned small, HUBZone small, Veteran-owned small, and service-disabled small businesses. OSDBU/MRC is a small business advocacy and advisory office with the responsibility for ensuring that these enterprises receive access to USAID programs.

  • President's Emergency Plan For HIV/AIDS Relief (PEPFAR)
    In 2003, the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) was launched to combat global HIV/AIDS - the largest commitment by any nation to combat a single disease in history. PEPFAR plans to work in partnership with host nations to support treatment for at least 3 million people, prevention of 12 million new infections, and care for 12 million people, including 5 million orphans and vulnerable children.

  • Presidents Malaria Initiative (PMI)
    PMI represents an historic five-year expansion of U.S. Government (USG) resources to fight malaria in the region most affected by the disease. In 2005, former President Bush made a commitment of an additional $1.2 billion in malaria funding to this Initiative with the goal of reducing malaria-related deaths by 50 percent in 15 focus countries.

  • Private Voluntary Organization Registration
    The PVO Registration Guidance outlines USAID’s registration process for U.S. and international private voluntary organizations (PVOs). Registered PVOs are eligible to compete for assistance funds (grants and cooperative agreements) that are available though USAID. An organization that wishes to be listed in USAID’s PVO Registry must complete the process on an annual basis.
