Research, Statistics, & Policy Analysis

About Us

Office of Retirement Policy

The Office of Retirement Policy has four major areas of responsibility:

  • Conducting comprehensive analysis of Social Security solvency proposals;
  • Preparing quick-turnaround analyses on critical issues for the Commissioner, the Principal Deputy Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner for Retirement and Disability Policy, and other agency officials;
  • Producing policy-relevant research in anticipation of projected issues; and
  • Leading the new agency-wide program for financial literacy.

To carry out our responsibilities, ORP coordinates and collaborates with sister components in the Office of Retirement and Disability Policy, including the Office of Research, Evaluation, and Statistics, the Office of Program Development and Research and the Office of Income Security Programs. We also work with the agency's Office of Legislation and Congressional Affairs, the Office of the Chief Actuary, and the Office of Communications on major policy issues.
