Contraceptive Social Marketing
USAID has been a pioneer in
developing contraceptive social marketing programs (CSM)
which were designed to lessen countries' dependence
on the donor community and expand access by privatizing
distribution and marketing. CSM works with the commercial
pharmaceutical sector to supply contraceptives to sales
outlets, including pharmacies, kiosks, and other highly
accessible locations, which distribute, promote, and
sell contraceptives at subsidized prices. More than
50 countries use CSM thanks to USAID support.
