Why was the data set created?

With insight into the functional relationships and into the scales at which wind forcing data must be collected for model input gained from the field efforts, the treatment of wind forcing in models can be improved. This, in turn, can lead to enhanced understanding of the significance of wind effects on flow, transport, and horizontal mixing in the SICS (Southern inland coastal systems of Miami-Dade County) study area.

    Date: 1999 (process 1 of 1)
    These data were collected originally by Ed German of the USGS. Gaps in the original data have been filled by linear interpolation of the wind speed and wind direction. For data collected between September, 1995 and January, 1998, less than .2 percent of the data have been interpolated. In addition, the vast majority of the interpolations are over single missing data points.
