Recovering from a catastrophic injury can be an overwhelming experience for patients and families -emotionally, physically and financially.  In the course of this difficult journey, they can rely on the NTAF Catastrophic Injury Program.

NTAF can help patients to mobilize their communities to fundraise for uninsured expenses related to Catastrophic Injury, including home and vehicle modifications and home health care.

NTAF will be with you every step of the journey - from the initial discussions about fundraising, through phases of active fundraising and through the process of applying for assistance as well.

The compassionate, professional staff at  NTAF offers support at many levels -  fundraising ideas and how-to's,  media relations,  creating event flyers,  patient websites,  and being there for you when you have financial questions and concerns .

1. Why should you fundraise?

Anyone who anticipates uninsured medical expenses such as home modifications, specially equipped vans and home health care should consider fundraising to help offset those expenses.

Fundraising empowers family, friends, neighbors and community by allowing them to help in a concrete way. While these supporters cannot change your medical condition, they can help you live more independently.

People want to help. Fundraising with NTAF provides a trusted mechanism for your supporters to do so with full confidence.

2. What does NTAF require?

NTAF talks with patients to determine whether or not fundraising is feasible given their unique circumstances. Each patient seeking assistance must complete an NTAF application, demonstrating financial need.

NTAF works with community volunteers to tailor a plan to meet either ambitious or modest fundraising goals.  NTAF can work with fundraising groups both large and small - even if it just the patient and a few family members or friends. NTAF will help volunteers develop everything from tribute sheets with a personal and persuasive story, to online donation materials, flyers, press coverage and other materials.

3. How does NTAF help patients?

NTAF helps patients organize, launch and sustain successful fundraising campaigns based on the kind of support network and special events available in their home communities.

In addition to step by step guidance, NTAF offers a personal page for each patient on the NTAF website, guidance in dealing with the media and free resources such as appeal letters, tribute sheets, flyers, etc.

Funds raised come to NTAF where they are held in Regional Restricted Funds in honor of the patient, for the region where the patient lives, together with other funds raised in that region.

Once fundraising is underway, patients may apply for assistance on a weekly basis.  NTAF provides lists of contributors and tax receipts for contributions over $250.

Once patients read through the material NTAF provides and decide to fundraise with our organization, patients begin planning individually-tailored fund-raising campaigns with their NTAF patient services coordinator.

Funds raised come to NTAF where they are held in Regional Restricted Funds in honor of the patient, for the region where the patient lives, together with other funds raised in that region.

Once the completed application demonstrating financial need has been approved, a patient may submit a request for assistance (Fund Request Form) with appropriate proof of expense.  The NTAF Board of Directors has final approval over the disbursement of funds, based upon patient financial need.

For NTAF patients, ninety-six cents of every dollar raised is used to pay medical expenses.

5. How does fundraising with NTAF benefit your contributors?

In addition to the help provided to patients, there are three important reasons to fundraise with NTAF

·      Tax-deductibility – Contributions to NTAF are tax deductible to the extent permitted by law.
·      Fiscal accountability - contributors can be sure that their contributions will be used as intended, as all expenses are paid based upon board approval.
·      Matching gifts - participating companies are able to match employee contributions.
