Peripheral neuropathy is caused by damage to your body’s peripheral nerves. This damage disrupts the body’s ability to communicate with its muscles, skin, joints, or internal organs. It is like the body’s wiring system breaking down. If ignored, peripheral neuropathy can lead to numbness, pain, weakness and incoordination. "I Have to Be Strong for My Daughter"
There’s no more football for my daughter Maggie who was diagnosed with neuropathy in March, 2008. Before that diagnosis, she loved sports and was quite active. Now, in ninth grade; she has had to cut out most extra-curricular activities.
Despite all her challenges, Maggie still finds the energy to tutor other kids. She had to miss the first six weeks of school, but still managed to pull her grades up to A’s and B’s that semester. Maggie is focused and a good student. Last year she worked with kids at a history camp. They delved into learning about and experiencing history by dressing up and doing things from a certain time period. She loved it.
