Chronic diseases accounted for 5 of the leading 6 causes of disease in 2002 in the United States. Physical inactivity and unhealthy eating contribute to obesity and a number of chronic diseases, including cancer, cardiovascular disease, and diabetes. This report discusses the importance of physical activity and good nutrition to prevent chronic disease and looks at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's national leadership to reduce chronic diseases and obesity.
