A Marketplace for Education in Macedonia

During the second annual Educational Rendezvous in April, high school students marketed themselves to future employers at Macedonia’s largest recruitment event of its kind. High school students will demonstrate their leadership and business skills through competitions ranging from writing business plans to public speaking. But the competition was not limited only to job-seekers: 70 high schools presented their programs to graduating primary school students and their parents in an attempt to attract the best students.

The Educational Rendezvous is organized by students, for students in Macedonia. The Youth Association of Vocational High Schools in Macedonia—MASSUM—is the primary organizer, and receives support from the American people through USAID’s Secondary Education Project. During the Rendezvous, MASSUM will hold its National Assembly and elect new National Leaders for 2007/2008.

Last year the Educational Rendezvous attracted more than 10,000 students, parents and teachers. A full 1,200 students participated in competitions, while more than 3,000 primary school graduates visited the booths to choose which high school to attend.
