River Recreation

In addition to providing for land-based recreation, the BLM manages recreation opportunities on more than 270 rivers and streams. These BLM-managed waterways are found primarily in the 12 western states, including Alaska, and span more than 10,000 miles. Boating and floating opportunities include whitewater rafting, canoeing, kayaking, tubing, sailing, waterskiing, wind surfing, parasailing, and other associated activities. River enthusiasts also enjoy swimming, picnicking, fishing, diving, hiking, camping, and other activities at these rivers and streams.
