USAID Support Helps Special Courts Improve Administration
USAID assistance to the Special Courts for War Crimes and Organized Crime reached completion in mid-September 2004. Over the past year, USAID—through the National Center for State Courts (NCSC)—has provided approximately $800,000 in equipment and software, including a new case management system that serves as a model for other donors and programs. Approximately $300,000 in training has addressed the management of high-profile cases by judges, lawyers and court staff, along with specialized training in media relations for court spokespeople.
As part of a separate program, NCSC will continue to work on addressing the backlog of cases in non-commercial courts and developing curricula in Serbian law schools.
