Region 8 Boundary Files

Please check the metadata files associated with these layers to identify the date the information was processed. The FWS Division of Realty is currently working on a dataset of the entire National Wildlife Refuge System with up-to-date boundary information. Please be patient while this information is compiled. Overview: Listed below are compressed ArcGIS shapefiles and Google Earth Keyhole Markup Language (kml) files that provide the extent and type of interest that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has in the National Wildlife Refuges of Region 8.

Region 8 refuges are in the Klamath Basin that extends into Oregon, California and Nevada, with the exception of Sheldon National Wildlife Refuge which is a part of the FWS Pacific Region 1. The shapefiles are in UTM zones 10 and 11 datum NAD83. Also listed are the metadata files in html format that will open in any browser. The links at the top of the html file will enable the user to navigate through areas of interest. In order to view kml files overlaid onto the Google Earth base, first install the free software found at earth.google.com.  Double-click on the file to launch the program, and the viewer will zoom to the refuge boundary. We have made every effort to provide accurate and complete boundary data, but keep in mind the following caveat: The FWS shall not be held liable for improper or incorrect use of the data described and/or contained herein. These data are not legal documents and are not intended to be used as such.

The information contained in the data is dynamic and changes over time. It is the responsibility of the data user to use the data appropriately and consistently within the limits of the data. Conclusions drawn from use of this data are the user’s responsibility.

The FWS provides no warranty, expressed or implied, as to the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of the data. Although these data have been processed successfully on a computer system at the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, no warranty expressed or implied is made regarding the utility of the data on another system or for general or scientific purposes, nor shall the act of distribution constitute any such warranty.
