This job family includes occupations involved in the fabrication, installation, alteration, maintenance, repair, and testing of electrical systems, instruments, apparatus, and equipment.

Throughout the following information, an asterisk (*) stands for series with a published standard and a double asterisk (**) stands for series with a published flysheet.

Occupations in this family are:

2805 Electrician *

This occupation includes jobs involved in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical wiring systems and associate fixtures, controls, and equipment in industrial, institutional, office, and residential buildings, and on ships. These jobs require knowledge and application of electrical principles, materials, and safety standards.

2810 High Voltage Electrician *

This occupation includes jobs involved in installation, test, repair, and maintenance of electric power plant and/or overhead and underground primary electrical distribution systems. These jobs require knowledge and application of electrical and electronic principles, procedures, materials, and safety standards governing work on electrical systems above 600 volts.

2854 Electrical Equipment Repairing *

This occupation includes jobs involving the assembly, fabrication, troubleshooting, testing, repair, overhaul, modification, and general maintenance of electrical equipment or components that have been removed from larger systems or assemblies such as automatic alternator synchronizing equipment, amplidyne control units, voltage regulating equipment, generators, switching and control panels, junction boxes, AC and DC motors, electrical harnesses, transformers, and power amplifiers. Electrical equipment repair at the full performance level and above requires an in-depth knowledge of electrical circuitry, electrical principles and formulas, and their practical application to the equipment and systems repaired. In addition, some work may require knowledge of electronic circuitry and theory and general mechanical skills and knowledge.

2892 Aircraft Electrician *

This occupation includes jobs involved in the troubleshooting, installation, testing, modification, and repair of electrical systems and equipment on aircraft. Includes installation of electrical systems, diagnosis and elimination of trouble in the systems, and modification of systems by replacement of individual components or installation of new systems. The work requires knowledge and skill in locating and tying in the electrical systems with the aircraft armament, electronics, and instrument systems; adjusting and calibrating the components of the various electrical systems so that operation is within established limits; and reading and interpreting blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematics so as to follow a system through to diagnose malfunctions and check continuity, resistance, voltages, and amperage.
