Governor of Primory’e Joins NGOs in Fighting Human Trafficking
More than 4,000 people participated in anti-trafficking street fairs in Vladivostok, Artyom, Ussuriysk and Partizansk, as a part of the USAID-funded PATH To Success! program. These large-scale activities helped raise public awareness about trafficking issues and educate young people about the associated risks.
During the street events, 40 volunteers distributed leaflets on the threat of trafficking while local NGO representatives collected nearly 1,400 signatures for a petition requesting that the Governor of Primory’e, Sergey Darkin, create shelters and a hotline for human trafficking victims as well as a comprehensive regional program to stop trafficking in persons. After receiving the petition, Governor Darkin indicated his willingness to work with NGOs and announced that he would discuss specific anti-trafficking measures at the “STOP Trafficking” Asia-Pacific International Forum on August 30 in Vladivostok.
