Certified Utility Safety Administrator Program (CUSA)

What changes are happening with CUSA?

Over the past two years, the NSC, working in conjunction with the CUSA Board, has conducted a business analysis of the CUSA Certification. Because of the review, the Council has made a business decision to sunset the CUSA Certification as of July 1, 2009. However, as part of a continuous improvement process, the NSC will examine the feasibility of offering an on-line training program with a certificate of completion for the Utilities safety administrator. This concept will go through a business analysis with NSC sharing the results with the Utilities Division in early spring 2009.

Please note that if your CUSA designation is not active as of July 1, 2009, you will not receive the certificate without expiration. If you have questions concerning your status or renewal period, please contact Pam Johnson at CUSA@nsc.org or 630-775-2097.

What date will NSC stop accepting new applications?

NSC will stop accepting new applications on February 1st, 2009 and allow only those who have submitted applications by that deadline to apply for CUSA designation. No applications will be accepted after February 1st, 2009.

What if I have already submitted an application or submit
an application before the deadline?

If you submit an application before February 1st, 2009, you will be able to take the revised examination. If you pass the examination on or before June 30th 2009, you will be eligible for CUSA designation.
