Hello,
I have been on two cruises since my injury. I have spinal-cord injury at level T-1.
I immensely enjoy cruising with family, and I have found that the higher cabins (pricer/nicer), such as the penthouse, or the deluxe suites are not wheelchair accessible. And it makes me sad that even though I am able to afford it, I am not able to book the cabin I really want. It would be so nice if all cabins were made Universal Design. I meet many wonderful people who invite me and my family to their cabin, but I am not able to go in because the doorway is so narrow. I have also noticed that all the cruise ships lines do not ask for any type of proof, such as a doctors letter, to get the wheelchair accessible cabin. I know quite a few who book these wheelchair accessible cabins just because they know they are larger in square footage compared to the ones they would be in in the same price range. Currently, I am in this predicament with Holland Cruise line. The cruise I want to go on does not have any more accessible cabins, but they do not know if the people requesting these cabins are really in need of them. Just like we need a handicap parking permit, I think there should be one on all the cruise ships.
