Description
This is a partnership organization formed from four major citizens' groups (National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, National Mental Health Association, National Depressive and Manic-Depressive Association and the Schizophrenia Research Foundation) in 1986. NARSAD raises and distributes funds for scientific research into the causes, cures and treatments, and prevention of severe mental illness, primarily schizophrenia and depression. NARSAD also provides recognition for the most outstanding contribution to research through the Lieber Prize for Schizophrenia and the Lieber Prize for Depression through the Essel Foundation. NARSAD raises funds through contributions from families, organizations, foundations and corporations.
