Description

This is a scientific and educational association, with more than 6,500 members in North America and abroad. The American Association of Neurological Surgeons, which is designated a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is dedicated to excellence in neurosurgical education to advance patient care. Active members of the Association are neurosurgeons who have completed four years of medical school and at least six years of additional specialized training. In addition, they must pass a comprehensive oral and written examination and be certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery. All active members of the AANS are certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons (Neurosurgery) of Canada or the Mexican Council of Neurological Surgery, AC. The AANS was founded on October 10, 1931 as the Harvey Cushing Society.
