Description

The Population Council is a international, nonprofit, nongovernmental organization that seeks to improve the well-being and reproductive health of current and future generations around the world and to help achieve a humane, equitable, and sustainable balance between people and resources. The Council conducts biomedical, social science, and public health research and helps build research capacities in developing countries. Established in 1952, the Council is governed by an international board of trustees. Its New York headquarters supports a global network of regional and country offices.

The Council publishes journals, an annual report, newsletters, working papers, fact books, handbooks, brochures, monographs, and reports. Serial publications: Studies in Family Planning (journal, quarterly--articles and commentary on family planning and related health and development issues), Population and Development Review (journal, quarterly --articles and essays on the interaction between population dynamics and socioeconomic development, book reviews), Population Briefs (newsletter, three times a year -- reports on Population Council research) and Momentum (newsletter, semi-annual -- highlights Population Council research and international activities in biomedicine, public health and social science). There is a charge for some publications; the charge is waived for qualified recipients in developing countries.
