The Society for Surgery of the Alimentary Tract was formed in 1960 as a forum for exchange of knowledge among alimentary tract surgeons. The Society meets regularly to discuss surgical problems of the intestinal tract. The Society's membership numbers about 1,700 members.
The Society publishes scientific papers about surgical problems related to intestinal diseases and functions.
