Description

Formed in 1972, the National Indian Health Board (NIHB) advocates that health services delivered to American Indians and Alaskan Natives be of the highest quality and sufficient quantity to make Native Americans' health status equal with that of other American groups. NIHB activities focus on developing projects related to Indian health programs and providing advisory, consultative, and guidance functions for the Indian Health Service (IHS). NIHB is a nonprofit corporation. It reviews Indian health budget materials and various Indian-related government activities. It advises the Director of the Indian Health Service on matters affecting the IHS/Indian relationship in health affairs. NIHB also conducts an annual health conference including workshops, general assemblies, arts and crafts and educational exhibits, and a health fair.
