Description

Organized in 1960, the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) collects, analyzes, and disseminates data on health in the United States. Using surveys and registration systems, data systems have been developed to collect statistics on births, deaths, marriages, and divorces in the U.S.; the extent and impact of illness and disability; determinants of health; health services; utilization of health care; and family growth and dissolution. Staff members respond to requests from professionals or consumers using publications, computer printouts, micro-data tapes.
