On Monday, November 3, 2008, National Weather Service and Glades County Emergency Management representatives participated in a StormReady sign presentation which was held at the Glades County Courthouse in Moore Haven. Glades County became the third South Florida county to fully renew their StormReady recognition in 2008. Collier and Miami-Dade counties were the first two to be successfully re-recognized earlier this year. All three counties successfully met and exceeded the guidelines required for StormReady recognition, and their hard work and dedication were illustrated during the tropical cyclone threats of August and September 2008. Glades County, in particular, performed admirably during and after the severe floods which impacted the county as a result of Tropical Storm Fay in August.

2008 A Busy Year For StormReady in South Florida

Besides the full re-recognition of Collier, Miami-Dade and Glades counties, 2008 has welcomed Florida Atlantic University to the StormReady family as the first South Florida University to achieve  this recognition. In December 2007, the Mediterra and Twin Eagles communities of Collier County became StormReady Supporters. The Seminole Tribe of Florida, along with Florida International University have submitted applications for StormReady, and Hendry, Broward and Palm Beach counties are up for renewal in 2009. Therefore, 2009 promises to be active with StormReady first-time recognition and full renewals. Stay tuned for these updates!
