DMC Resource Center

The 2008 DMC CONFERENCE brought speakers from across the U.S. to discuss reducing racial disparities and to highlight strengths-based culturally competent practice. NRCFCPs DMC Resource Center works on issues to reduce over-representation in the juvenile justice and child welfare systems. Issues in health and education are also addressed. Research and Evaluation

New research and evaluation projects are always underway at the Resource Center. Click here for the Feb. 11 presentation at the 16th Annual Early Childhood Conference. Improving Recruitment and Retention in Public Child Welfare and Training Supervisors in Independent Living Services (Youth in Transition) are two significant current initiatives. These projects are conducted with the Iowa Dept. of Human Services (IDHS) and the Children's Bureau [read more]. The NRC is also working with IDHS evaluating the new Subsidized Guardianship program. The NRC specializes in strength-based, culturally responsive programs tailored to meet the needs of today's adult learners. Our staff works across sectors - with social services, education, business, and community agencies. A hallmark offering is the Family Development Specialist Training. The Latino Institute

A joint effort of the University of Iowa School of Social Work (SSW) and the NRC, the Institute for the Support of Latino/a Families and Communities serves as a resource for strength-based community development and cultural competence training.
