Thanks for stopping by!

Get Your Game On With Trace Adkins

Food allergies are no laughing matter to Trace Adkins. Making a difference by helping friends manage their food allergy is music to his ears.

Take Action, Prevent Reactions

That’s the theme of the 16th Annual Food Allergy Conferences. Learn all about managing your food allergy at the conference scheduled for May 9 in Tarrytown, N.Y. The conference will include a special session for teens (ages 11 to 18), where you can network with your peers to talk about school, dining out, traveling, and dating. Learn more about the conference and register at www.foodallergy.org/conferences.html.

I'm Not the Peanut Kid

TAG member Jason is quite familiar with having others define him by his allergies. But there is much more to him.

The 2009 Teen Advisory Group

The 45 members of FAAN’s Teen Advisory Group (TAG) range in age from 12 to 21 and have a variety of food allergies. These teens provide guidance and input for our teen programs. Each month, we’ll introduce you to some of the TAG members. In May, meet Dana, Cleo, Carlo, and Elisabeth!

Tip of the Iceberg

You may think you know someone, but TAG member Samantha writes about how the qualities you see in others may just represent the tip of the iceberg, using her competitive streak and athletic accomplishments to illustrate this point.

It’s What You Do, Not What You Have

Having food allergies doesn’t make you who you are, says TAG member Ryan, who encourages others to get involved and get busy with activities.

Don’t Let Allergies Limit You

TAG member Vivian writes about doing the things that she loves, which leave her little time to stress about her allergies!

Food Allergy Awareness Week

It’s time to Take Action, Prevent Reactions! Food Allergy Awareness Week is right around the corner. It’s not too late to get involved.

EZgreetings

FAANTeen Emily has created a website that sells singing grams to raise money for food allergy research. She recorded 100 grams to help celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, and other events. Visit her website to hear some samples.

Watch Out

"I've been to Spain this past summer with some of my fellow classmates. We were in a restaurant and they served a dish that looked like a pepper. It seemed to look harmless. Luckily, one of my classmates stopped me before I ate it - it had nuts in it, and I have a serious allergy to peanuts and tree nuts. Going into a foreign country can be adventurous, but you still need to be careful about what they serve you."

~Jen age 18, allergic to peanuts and tree nuts

My advice to kids with food allergies is to find things that you enjoy eating that take the place of things you have allergies to. By paying attention to food labels, you can reduce your risk of allergic reactions. Your health is a matter of exercising personal responsibility for your own benefit. Take charge.

~Matthew age 17
