St. Patrick’s Day Parade May Affect Some Downtown Area Mail Service

SAVANNAH, GA — Savannah’s Postmaster, Linda Shall announced today that mail delivery will be affected to a limited number of addresses in the 31401 ZIP Code area on Friday, March 14, 2008, due to the St. Patrick’s Day Parade scheduled for that day.

“Every effort will be made to deliver all mail to each address, but circumstances may not permit us to reach some downtown areas,” she announced. In an effort to minimize the impact of the parade, delivery personnel will modify their scheduled delivery and collection times.

Mail collection and delivery will be affected in the following areas:

  • South of River Street, including General McIntosh Blvd.
  • North of 37th Street between Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
  • East of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd.
  • West of East Broad Street

If there are any question concerning March 14th mail service, please call 235-4666.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation — 146 million homes and businesses. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
