FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- March 9, 2009 -- Dan the Sausageman is recalling Anna’s Pantry 1.5oz honey roasted peanuts used in Dan the Sausageman Gift Boxes, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. They were manufactured using peanuts/peanut products recalled by Peanut Corporation of American because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
The Gift Boxes were distributed nationally via retail/web sales.
The recalled Honey Roasted Peanuts are packaged in a clear 1.5oz bag with a label that says “Anna’s Pantry”. The product does not contain any other lot code or UPC code information. Honey Roasted Peanuts in gift boxes received between August 1, 2007 and February 23, 2009 are affected by this recall.
No other products in Dan the Sausageman Gift Boxes are affected by this recall.
No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product/these products. The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanut product received was manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America. Dan the Sausageman has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.
