FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- April 17, 2009 -- Jeppi Nut and Candy Company, in Timonium, Maryland is voluntarily recalling Setton Farm’s Natural Pistachios due to potential contamination with the Salmonella organism, which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weekend immune systems.  Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.  In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The Natural Piastachios were distributed in Maryland in Jeppi’s retail store and through mail orders.  The product was sold in one pound brown bags labeled Jeppi’s Natural Pistachios. We ask that all customers return Natural Pistachios purchased in brown bags if they were purchased BEFORE March 30, 2009.  Product was also sold by the bulk case, in cardboard boxes marked Setton Farms Naturally Opened California Pistachios Roasted And Salted with lot numbers: 3578B13XLA-3, 0548D05XLA-3, 0548D05XLA-3.
