FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- March 14, 2009 --—Jay Robb Enterprises Inc., of Carlsbad, CA, is recalling all of their peanut butter-flavored JayBars due to potential contamination with Salmonella. The bars were manufactured using peanut products recalled by Peanut Corporation of America and have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The recalled Peanut Butter JayBars were distributed nationwide in retail stores and through online and phone orders.

The products subject to recall are the Jay Robb brand High-Protein Peanut Butter JayBars packaged in printed plastic wrappers. They are labeled with UPC codes 60390700200-1 for single bars, 60390700201-8 for boxes of 12 bars, and 60390700360-2 for cases of the 12-bar boxes and marked with the following current "Best By" dates: "25MAR09," "04APR09," "30MAY09F 1," "01JUL09," "14AUG09F 1," "13AUG09F 1," "03JAN09 fuji2," "23JAN09 F1," "08FEB09 fuji2," "22FEB09 fuji2," "01MAY09," "16SEP09 F1," "17SEP09F1," "10OCT09," "31OCT09," "04DEC09," and "15JAN10," and the following expired "Best by" dates: "29NOV08," "07NOV08," "16OCT08," "11OCT08," "28AUG08," "15AUG08," "24JUL08," "11APR08," "10APR8," "24FEB08," "23FEB08," "03FEB08," "12JAN08," "06JAN08," "28DEC07," " 03DEC07," "02DEC07," and "07NOV07." This recall only extends to Peanut Butter flavored JayBars; no other Jay Robb products are included in this recall. No salmonella has been found in our products and no illnesses have been reported from their consumption, but for the safety of all Jay Robb customers, we are taking part in this voluntary recall.

Those who have purchased Peanut Butter JayBars must return them to their source. If Peanut Butter JayBars were purchased directly from Jay Robb Enterprises, either online or by phone, please return the remaining JayBars to Jay Robb Enterprises, 6339 Paseo del Lago, Carlsbad, CA 92011. If the bars were purchased from a retail location or online vendor other than JayRobb.com, please return the bars to the store or online vendor. Retail locations should remove the product from their shelves, alert their customers, and send all returned Peanut Butter JayBars to Jay Robb Enterprises.
