FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Ronkonkoma, NY -- April 7, 2009 --- InStore Distributors Inc. d/b/a 21st Century Snack Foods Inc. of Ronkonkoma, NY is voluntarily recalling various products containing pistachios because the pistachio nuts contained in them have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. This recall action is being taken as a precaution to the nationwide recall by Setton Pistachio.
Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
These recalled items were distributed nationwide through retail stores. All items are packaged in clear, re-closeable containers (tubs) and have expiration dates between 8/15/2009 - 3/31/2010. The following products and UPC codes are being recalled as follows:
No illnesses have been reported to date.
