FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Dallas, Tx -- April 9, 2009 --- Hines Nut Company of Dallas, TX is recalling Roasted and Salted Inshell Pistachio Nuts because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The recalled product(s) contain pistachios supplied by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. as a precautionary measure because the product may be contaminated with Salmonella. Setton expanded their recall of roasted shelled and in-shell pistachios April 6, 2009 to include all 2008 crop pistachio products that it has shipped to date.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The Roasted and Salted Inshell Pistachio Nuts were distributed in GA, NC and TX through retail sales, wholesale grocery chains and wholesale suppliers.

There have been no illnesses or injuries reported to date affiliated with these products. Anyone concerned about an illness/injury should contact a physician immediately. Hines Nut Company has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.

Consumers with any of these products may return them to Hines Nut Company for a full refund. Consumers with questions about the recalled product may phone the Hines Nut Company Customer Service division at 800-561-6374, 24 hours a day.
