FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- April 8, 2009 -- Harry and David, of Medford, Oregon, has initiated a nationwide voluntary recall of a “A Gift for You” boxed nut collection. This product contains pistachios that may be part of the recall by Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. due to possible contamination with Salmonella.
Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail and elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis. The “A Gift for You” nut collection box is a 20 oz. green box with four plastic windows displaying the nuts. The box is wrapped with a red ribbon and has a hang tag containing the words “A Gift for You”. The box contains pistachios, cashews and mixed nuts. Affected lots can be identified by a Best If Used By date of: 04/06/09. UPC 7 8099467220 8
The “A Gift for You” nut collection was sold exclusively in Harry and David Stores nationwide throughout the US from October 2008 through February 2009. This product was made for Harry and David by Pacific Gold Marketing, Inc., Madera, CA
There have been no illnesses or injuries reported to date affiliated with these products. Anyone concerned about an illness/injury should contact a physician immediately. Harry and David has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.
Consumers with this product may return it to Harry and David Stores for a full refund. Consumers with questions about the recalled product may phone the Harry and David Customer Service division at 800-233-1101, 24 hours a day.
