Top Food & Drug and Haggen Food and Pharmacy Stores Recall Pistachios

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Bellingham, WA - April 9, 2009--- TOP Food & Drug and Haggen Food & Pharmacy stores in Washington and Oregon have voluntarily recalled pistachios from Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella, Inc. due to concerns of potential Salmonella contamination.

As a precautionary measure, TOP Food and Haggen stores removed from sale all Setton Pistachio products on March 31st. This was done in response to a recall issued by Setton Pistachio on specific lots of its bulk roasted shelled pistachios. On April 6th, Setton Pistachio expanded its recall to include all roasted shelled and in-shell pistachios from its 2008 crop.

The Setton products that had been sold in TOP Food and Haggen stores until March 31st were:

No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with pistachios and pistachio products. Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.
