FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- March 10, 2009 -- COUNTRY VILLAGE NUTRITION SHOPPE of LONGVIEW, WA is recalling 30 LBS OF BULK Mt Hood Trail Mix, because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. The product was manufactured using peanut products recalled by Peanut Corporation of American because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
BULK MT HOOD TRAIL MIX was distributed BY GLORYBEE FOODS IN WASHINGTON AND SOLD TO COUNTRY VILLAGE NUTRITION SHOPPE (A RETAIL STORE) WHERE IT WAS SOLD FROM OUR BULK BINS WITH A PLU NUMBER OF 05190 and labeled as MT HOOD TRAIL MIX.
The trail mix was sold at our store from 2/15/07 through 11/1/08. The product had no UPC code.
No known illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product/these products. The recall was initiated after it was determined that the peanut product received was manufactured by Peanut Corporation of America. COUNTRY VILLAGE NUTRITION SHOPPE has informed FDA of its actions and is fully cooperating with the Agency.
Consumers who have purchased this bulk food item are urged to return it to COUNTRY VILLAGE NUTRITION SHOPPE for a full refund.
