This conference was held April 30-May 1, 2009 in Santa Fe, NM and worked to promote and advance knowledge and leadership through professional and parent stakeholder partnerships that result in collaborative state education systems and improved outcomes for children and youth who are deaf or hard of hearing.

This conference took place April 1-4, 2009 in Seattle, WA. Leading educational experts came together to discuss the latest issues in special and gifted education.

On March 31, 2009 NCD released its annual report to the President and Congress calling for a new integrated approach to disability policy within the federal government. The report looks at many issues including access to health care, housing and technology, and negative public attitudes and stereotypes about people with disabilities. These regulations, which took effect on December 31, 2008, clarify and strengthen previously published regulations in the areas of parental consent for continued special education and related services; non-attorney representation in due process hearings; state monitoring, technical assistance and enforcement; and allocation of funds. The regulations also incorporate a statutory requirement relating to positive efforts to employ and advance in employment individuals with disabilities.

Sponsored by the LDA the conference was held February 25-28, 2009 in Salt Lake City, UT, and focus on recent research and findings in learning disabilities.

This conference was held January 28 - 30, 2009 in Crystal City, VA, and focused on the theme, High Expectations, Endless Possibilities. Parent Center leaders and colleagues learned about current topics and reflect on their work, united by the common goal of improving outcomes for children with disabilities.

September 16, 2008 - The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) today announced a five-year cooperative agreement grant award totaling $33 million to the Education Development Center, Inc. of Newton, Mass., for the National Center for Mental Health Promotion & Youth Violence Prevention.

This summit was held September 19 - 20, 2008 and brought together educational leaders, disability advocates, educators, academics and government officials to share valuable tools and resources to continue building academic opportunities for students with disabilities.

The National Amputation Foundation offers six scholarships to college students who have a major limb amputation and who will be attending an accredited university as full time students. The deadline for 2008 was August 31.
